The UN has estimated that 22.3 million people live in areas where the virus has been reported and are in need of help
On Tuesday in Geneva, the United Nations asked for nearly one billion dollars (773 million euros) for the fight against Ebola in West Africa, nearly twice as much as the already requested funds, according to AFP.
„It is a huge financial challenge” said the chief of the UN humanitarian operations, Valerie Amos, during a press conference. The UN has estimated that 22.3 million people live in areas where the virus has been reported and are in need of help.
On Thursday afternoon, the UN Security Council will hold an “emergency meeting” regarding the Ebola epidemic that is ravaging West Africa.
