The probability of the Ebola Virus reaching France until the 24th of October is estimated at 75%, and in the case of Britain, at 50%
The hemorrhagic fever epidemic caused by the Ebola Virus could reach France and Britain by the 24th of October, experts declared, quoted by The Independent British Daily Newspaper.
According to the experts who analyzed the spread of this virus and the data from the airlines regarding their flights, the probability of the Ebola Virus reaching France until the 24th of October is estimated at 75%, and in the case of Britain, at 50%.
At the same time, there is a risk (40%) that the virus will affect Belgium, according to a study originally published in the PLoS Current Outbreaks magazine.
„There is no exact list (of the countries that are subject to the risk of being infected with the virus), it’s about probability” said Alex Vespignani, expert in biological anthropology at the Boston University, highlighting that „air travel is a catalyst for spreading the virus”.
According to a study, the probability of the virus reaching Spain and Switzerland was estimated at 14%.
The first Ebola patient in France, a young nurse, was treated in a military hospital on the outskirts of Paris, where she benefitted from experimental treatments. Repatriated on the 19th of September, the young girl who was contaminated with the Ebola virus during a mission in Liberia “was cured and left the hospital”, announced on Saturday French Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine.
Earlier, an experiment of the Cambridge University stated that the Ebola Virus could be used by terrorists in order to create a weapon capable of killing many people in the UK.
The Ebola epidemic has led to 3.439 deaths in West Africa and 7.478 cases in five countries (Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Senegal), according to the latest total of the World Health Organization (WHO), conducted on the 1st of October and published on Friday.
