Jeh Johnson: “The IS is prepared to kill any innocent Americans that they encounter, just because they are Americans”
The White House will hold a summit in October on extremism and radicalization, announced the American Internal Security Minister Jeh Johnson on Wednesday, on the eve of the commemoration of 13 years since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, AFP informed on Thursday.
Referring to the terrorist threats that the US is currently facing, Jeh Johnson stated that the Islamic State (IS) has become “the main terrorist organization on the world stage”, “extremely dangerous”, which “the United States has pledged to destroy”.
“Although we do not have any reliable information confirming the fact that the IS is intending to attack our country, we do know that the IS is prepared to kill any innocent Americans that they encounter, just because they are Americans” he said during a conference of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Minister Johnson added that the American authorities are “constantly on guard against a possible terrorist threat in the country”.
Considering that it was “the most difficult threat to detect”, the minister announced a Summit in October at the White House on “internal and international efforts to prevent violent extremism”.
“We need to engage in the fight against this form of terrorist threat, we cannot avoid it. We are in the position to mobilize the international public opinion, including the Muslim world, about the dangers posed by the Islamic State.” – Jeh Johnson, The American Internal Security Minister.
