Slovakia refuses to take in Muslim immigrants

40.000 immigrants are set to be relocated to several parts of Europe, from Italy, Greece, and Turkey, in an attempt to ease the countries’ burden.

Slovakia’s interior ministry declared for BBC that they will take 200 Christian Syrian refugees, but not Muslim ones, due to ‘a lack of mosques’ within the small European country.

Another spokesman of the interior ministry stated that Slovakia will only be a transit country, not a stable home for the immigrants, especially not for the Muslim ones. “We could take 800 Muslims, but we don’t have any mosques in Slovakia, so how can Muslims be integrated if they are not going to like it here?” Mr. Ivan Metik stated for the BBC.

Mr. Metik denied any allegations that this decision was racist and discriminatory, and that the fact that they will only accept Christians is to protect the unity of the community.

Germany and Greece will also be receiving immigrants, prioritizing those coming from war-torn countries. Germany alone expects some 800.000 immigrants throughout this year.
