Romania’s unemployment rate drops to 5.5% in May 2021

The National Institute of Statistics (INS) said Romania‘s unemployment rate for May 2021 was estimated at 5.5%. It decreased by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous month according to a press release.

The unemployment rate for men was 0.3 percentage points higher than for women.

The number of individuals unemployed (aged 15-74) estimated for May of 2021 was 449,000,  a decrease compared to April (474,000 persons).

The unemployment rate of individuals in May 2021 between the ages 25-74 was estimated at 4.4% (4.6% in the case of men and 4.2% in the case of women).

The number of unemployed individuals aged 25-74 represents 75.6% of the total number of unemployed for May 2021.

From 2021, individuals that produce agricultural goods for self-consumption are no longer part of the employed population, this indicator decreasing accordingly. For this reason, the data published in the months of January – May 2021 are not comparable with data published for previous periods.
