Romania‘s tax authority, ANAF said it has blocked the accounts and frozen assets of three companies indirectly controlled by an unnamed person who is on the EU list of sanctioned Russian nationals over the invasion of Ukraine, according to See News.
The three companies – TMK Artrom, TMK Assets and TMK Europe GMBH – are controlled by Cyprus-registered TMK Steel Holding United, ANAF said in a press release on Thursday.
At the same time, at the request of TMK Artrom, a derogation was granted for the continuation of the company’s commercial activity and for payments to employees as well as to suppliers and to credit institutions.
TMK-Artrom operates two production units in Romania: a steel pipes plant in Slatina and a steel mill in Resita where it employed total 1,444 at the end of 2020, according to its website.
TMK Assets focuses on real estate activities and was established in Bucharest in 2006.
Founded in 1997, TMK Europe GmbH specializes also in distribution of production facilities, spare parts, commodities and consumables for metallurgical plants in Russia, CIS and Romania.
Earlier this month, the tax authority blocked the bank accounts of the representative office of Russian flag carrier Aeroflot in the country.
On March 15, the European Union announced that the list of sanctioned persons and entities has been further extended to include more oligarchs and business people linked to the Kremlin, as well as companies active in the military and defence areas which are logistically and materially supporting the invasion.
