Romanian prime minister Nicolae Ciuca announced on Wednesday that the country invested a record-high 73 bln lei (€15 bln) in 2022, slightly off its target due to the economic turmoil, according to See News.
The government had planned to invest 88 bln lei last year. These figures confirm a very positive trend – namely that investments are starting to make a major contribution to the budget, Ciuca said in a live-streamed statement ahead of a government meeting.
FDI into Romania reached €9.4 bln in January-October, up from €7.8 bln in the same period of 2021, the latest data from the central bank indicated.
According to the prime minister, in 2022 Romania reached a 73% EU funds absorption rate for the 2014-2021 period, up by an annual 20%.
Under the 2023 budget, investment spending is seen at 112 bln lei this year.
