Romanian railway operator CFR announced on Wednesday it has launched a €586 mln (2.9 bln lei) tender to repair and upgrade works on the Cluj – Aghires and Aghires – Poieni railway sections on the Cluj Napoca – Episcopia Bihor line, according to SEE News.
„The objective of the two service contracts is to electrify and rehabilitate the 166.2 km railway line in order to increase the number of passengers and the volume of goods transported,” CFR said in a press release.
The project aims to upgrade railway infrastructure and superstructure in order to allow for a maximum travel speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains. The financing will be provided from non-reimbursable EU funds contracted through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Rehabilitation works will be carried out on bridges, underpasses and tunnels. Also, civil engineering works will be carried out at several railway stations including signalling systems, fiber optics and electrical installations.
The estimated duration of the execution of each of the two contracts is 102 months. The deadline for submitting offers is February 14.
