Romania’s Prime Minister Florin Cîţu participated at the Kyiv summit on Monday, launching the International Crimea Platform and announced that Romania has joined the platform and supports Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Cîţu stated at the summit that Romania has been and will continue to be a firm supporter of the sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine and that Romania remains strongly committed to the implementation of the non-recognition policy of the illegal annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in 2014.
„As a neighbouring country and partner of Ukraine, I strongly encourage the political leadership of Ukraine to speed up the necessary economic and political reforms in order to achieve the democratic transformation of the society and its long term prosperity. The dividends will be shared across the whole Ukrainian society including by the Romanian minority living in Ukraine,” said Cîţu in his opening speech at the summit.
As a matter of policy, Romania reaffirms its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and supports Ukraine aspirations of becoming a member of the European and Euro-Atlantic community.
Cîţu explained that Romania has made a consistent effort to develop a positive mutually beneficial bilateral agenda with Ukraine.
The event in Kyiv was attended by heads of state and government, foreign and defence ministers, as well as high-level representatives of the European Union and other international organizations.
