Romania borrows €100m from IBRD for school infrastructure

The Government of Romania approved on Wednesday the negotiation and signing of an agreement for a loan between Romania and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), worth 100 million euros to support the project ‘safer, inclusive and sustainable schools, according to a press release from the  Ministry of Finance.

„One of the priorities is to make everything possible to ensure that the education sector receives the necessary funding for all students and pre-schoolers to be able to have access to a modern and secure school infrastructure,” said Alexandru Nazare, the Minister of Finance.

Nazare explained that the loan agreement worth 100 million euros will help build the infrastructure of schools especially in areas that are less developed in the country.

The project ‘Safer, Inclusive and Sustainable schools’ will run for a period of six years with the deadline being 30 June 2027.

The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Education, through the Project Management Unit. 

The main elements of the project will be focused on an integrated investment in school infrastructure, communication and information activities, student transport, smart classrooms and other temporary facilities.

The investments in school furniture, information and training activities will contribute to building smart classrooms.

The project „Safer, Inclusive and Sustainable Schools” includes an element of support towards investments in sustainable and modern school infrastructure.
