Pope Francis getting more popular on Twitter – more than 15 million followers

Pope Francis’ popularity on Twitter has skyrocketed, his followers reaching 15 million on Monday, according to the Il Sismografo site, which specializes in religious information, according to AFP.

Among the 15 million followers of the official Twitter account belonging to Pope Francis (@Pontifex), the record is held by the Hispanics – 6.48 million of them are following the Twitter account of the Latin American sovereign pontiff. They are closely followed by the Anglophones (4.37 million), the Italians (1.87 million), Portuguese speakers (1.12 million), French speakers (292.000) and Latin speakers (272.000).

The least followers of the papal account are Arabic speakers (146.000), German speakers (206.000) and Polish speakers (251.000).
