Misao Okawa celebrated her 117th birthday last month, on the 5th of March. When asked what she thinks about turning such a respectful age she replied that life seemed “rather short”. When even a 117-year-old tells you that life is short, you really realize how fast time goes by.

She was born on the 5th of March, 1898, in Osaka, Japan. She was the oldest living person in the world between the 12th of June, 2013, and the 1st of April, 2015, when she passed away surrounded by her family. The cause of death was heart failure.

When asked about her secret to a long life she replied that she wonders about that as well.

Now, the oldest person in the world is Gertrude Weaver. She is 116 years old and lives in Arkansas, USA. She was born on the 4th of July, 1898 and believes that the secret to a long and happy life is kindness.

In an interview for Time Magazine, in 2014, she stated: „Treat people right and be nice to other people the way you want them to be nice to you”.
