Luton Airport, one of the five airports in London, was evacuated on Monday due to a suspicious package found near the security search area, announced a spokesman of the airport authorities, quoted by AFP.

The evacuation of passengers and airport staff was decided after “the discovery of a suspicious package near the security search area”, declared the spokesman for AFP.

“The whole terminal was evacuated” she said.

All flights have been suspended and the main road that leads to the airport has been closed, a press release shows.

“We advise passengers to contact their airline company to find out what is going to happen with their flights” she added.

Located approximately 50 km north-west of London, Luton is the 5^th largest British airport, with 9.7 million passengers last year.
