The authorities in Republic of Moldova sent Cristian Rizea back to Romania after he allegedly prepared and carried out violent actions that aimed to change the constitutional regime of the country, according to a document signed by General Inspectorate for Migration Director Mihail Voda, Euractiv reports.
Through his actions, Rizea has tried ”undermining or suppressing the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country”, the document states, zdg. md reported.
The document also shows that Rizea would have “flagrantly and systematically violated the provisions of the Contraventional Code, presenting a danger to public order and security”.
He was declared undesirable on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for 15 years.
Cristian Rizea, a former social-democrat lawmaker, was sentenced in 2019 to four years and eight months in jail in Romania for influence peddling and money laundering.
Before the sentence, Rizea – having Moldovan citizenship – fled to Republic of Moldova.
He asked for political asylum, but his request was denied.
In November 2020, Cristian Rizea was stripped of Moldovan citizenship after the Prosecutor General’s Office decided the former Romanian MP obtained the citizenship illegally. He filed an appeal that was rejected in March 2023.
