It is very unusual for the UN court, which has a mandate to maintain international peace and security, to refer to a Public Health file
An „emergency meeting” of the UN Security Council will take place on Thursday afternoon, regarding the Ebola epidemic that is ravaging West Africa, announced on Monday the American Ambassador at the UN, Samantha Power, quoted by AFP.
The American diplomat who is chairing the Council in September said that Washington wants for this meeting to bring “precise commitments” for fighting the epidemic.
Samantha Power pointed out that it is very unusual for the UN court, which has a mandate to maintain international peace and security, to refer to a Public Health file.
„It is essential to analyze the evolution of the epidemic and to mobilize our resources” to fight it, she mentioned.
„We can stem the Ebola epidemic and we must avoid giving in to the panic, (…) but our collective response has not been enough” insisted the American diplomat.
