An AFP journalist found that Wednesday evening, in Amsterdam, thousands of people dressed in white attended a march of silence in honor of the 298 victims of flight MH17, out of which 193 were Dutch.

On this day of national mourning, decreed by the Dutch government, the participants gathered in Dam Square, located in the city center, after an appeal was launched on Facebook.

Over a kilometer long march began at 8:15p.m. (6:15p.m. GMT) and ended an hour later. At the end of the march, many of the participants released white balloons into the sky.

A Boeing 777 belonging to Malaysia Airlines was shot down on Thursday in East Ukraine, in an area controlled by pro-Russian separatists.

The main accusations are brought to separatists that would have used a rocket that was provided by Russia. In turn, Moscow is accusing the Ukrainian government.

The first bodies of the victims were taken to Netherlands on Wednesday afternoon. After a ceremony was held at the airport, they were transported to a military base to be identified.
