According to public television, the earthquake had a 6.1 magnitude on the Richter scale and affected the Ilam province
The American Institute of Geological Survey, quoted by AFP, announced that a 6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred on Monday in western Iran.
The earthquake, whose epicenter was located 36km southeast of the Abdanan city, near the Iraqi border, and at a 10km depth, was felt at 7:02 a.m. local time (02:32 a.m. GMT), stated the institute.
According to public television, the earthquake had a 6.1 magnitude on the Richter scale and affected the Ilam province, bordering Iraq, injuring numerous people.
The television also announced that 40 of the total people that were injured were rescued in the city of Abdanan.
The Ilam province is sparsely populated and is situated near the Iraqi border.
