The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) announced on Monday that the shares of ten other companies listed on the BVB will be included in the MSCI Frontier IMI and MSCI Romania IMI indices in the Small Cap category.

Six companies already included in the MSCI indices will be promoted from Small Cap to Mid Cap/Large Cap and will be part of the MSCI Frontier and MSCI Romania indices, thus doubling the number of Romanian companies included in these indices to 12, according to a press release.

BVB stated that the six companies are Electrica, MedLife, One United Properties, Teraplast, Transelectrica, Transgaz.

Romania’s presence will increase from 12 to 22 companies in the MSCI Frontier IMI, MSCI Romania IMI, MSCI Frontier and MSCI Romania indices, as of September 1, 2023 following the quarterly review of the indices, carried out by the global index provider MSCI, in August.

According to the MSCI announcement, the ten companies included in the MSCI Frontier IMI and MSCI Romania IMI (Investable Market Indices) are: Aquila Part Prod, Arobs Transilvania Software, Bitnet Systems, Bucharest Stock Exchange, Conpet, Purcari Wineries, Safetech Innovations, Simtel Team, Sphera Franchise Group, TTS Transport Trade Services.

“The local market has demonstrated in the last five years that it is a viable channel for supporting the economy both through the financing rounds carried out by private companies and the Romanian State, which totaled over 10.5 billion euros, as well as through a tripling of the number of investors, up to almost 160,000″, said Radu Hanga, President of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

“The increase in Romania’s presence in the MSCI indices is a new positive signal for the local market, which is still classified as a Frontier Market by the global index provider, stated Adrian Tanase, General Director of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

“We consider that the prospects are positive, considering the recent listing of Hidroelectrica, along with the fulfillment of the qualitative and quantitative criteria of the index provider,” added Tanase.

In the MSCI indices for Frontier Markets, Romania is also represented by Banca Transilvania, BRD Groupe Societe Generale, Hidroelectrica, Nuclearelectrica, OMV Petrom and Romgaz.

Romania is classified as an Emerging Market by the international index provider FTSE Russell, being represented by 14 companies: Banca Transilvania, Hidroelectrica, MedLife, Nuclearelectrica, OMV Petrom, One United Properties, Teraplast, Aquila, Bittnet Systems, Bursa de Valori Bucuresti, Conpet, Purcari Wineries, Sphera Franchise Group and Transport Trade Services.
